Communities Today

ÓN:WA WENHNISERATÉNION

Because of the long history Canada has towards Aboriginals, communities today suffer poverty, thoughts of suicide, alcohol & drug addiction, broken families, and much more.

The "drunk Indian" has become a strong stereotype in Canadian society; it is because of emotional and physical violence towards Residential School students that are causing communities to crumble; however, their cultures continue to stand strong by remembering the past and educating future generations.

Examples of communities and families struggling can be found on "Meet the Children," where Glen Anaquod and Lyna Hart explain their stories and how those stories changed their lives, and lives to come.

Glen, in his older years, has suffered strong thoughts of suicide, which impacted his entire adult life.
